About Even That’s Odd

Welcome to eventhatsodd.com—a collection of observations, experiences, and investigations into the things that make you tilt your head and say “wait, what?”

This site started as a place to document home projects, tech reviews, automotive adventures, and travel stories. The practical stuff. The “here’s what I learned so you don’t have to” stuff. How I built a house, why my Tesla won’t cooperate, what went wrong (or right) on various trips.

But I’ve always been curious about why things work the way they do. Or more often, why they don’t work the way they should. And that curiosity has a way of leading you down unexpected paths.

From “That’s Odd” to “Even That’s Odd”

You know that moment when something doesn’t make sense, and you start pulling at the thread? Maybe it’s a frustrating customer service experience that reveals a deeper problem with how a company operates. Or a home repair that makes you wonder why anyone designed it that way in the first place. Or noticing that healthcare, housing, and education all seem to be broken in remarkably similar ways.

That’s where this site lives—in the space between “huh, that’s weird” and “wait, is this on purpose?”

Sometimes the answer is just garden-variety incompetence or bad luck. But sometimes you find patterns. And when you’re a curious person with time to research, those patterns can lead to some eye-opening discoveries about how our systems actually work versus how we’re told they work.

What You’ll Find Here

Home & DIY Projects—The victories, the failures, and the “what was I thinking?” moments. Real stories about building, fixing, and occasionally making things worse before sometimes making them better.

Reviews & Experiences—From winter coats to shoes, cars to tech products. Honest takes on what works, what doesn’t, and why. If I’ve used it, broken it, fixed it or tried to, I’ll tell you about it.

Travel—Stories from places I’ve been and what surprised me when I got there. The unexpected moments that make travel interesting.

Things That Are Broken (and How to Fix Them)—Sometimes it’s a leaky faucet. Sometimes it’s figuring out why healthcare, housing, or education seem designed to be complicated. Whatever the problem, the goal is to understand what’s broken and explore what solutions might look like. To be honest, this section has grown quite a bit—turns out there’s a lot that doesn’t work the way it should, and once you start noticing patterns, more issues keep showing up..

The Approach

Whether I’m reviewing a winter coat, troubleshooting a home repair, or trying to understand why healthcare costs what it does, the approach is the same: ask questions, look at the data, and try to figure out what actually works.

My goal is to dumb down complex topics so I can wrap my head around them, then share what I’ve learned in a way that’s accessible to anyone who’s curious. If something I write makes you think, that’s a good thing.

About the Author

I’m a homeowner and reluctant DIYer—less “enthusiast” and more “I have no choice if I want to avoid paying someone else.” I’m relentlessly curious and like to try fixing problems and things that are broken. Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes I make things worse. Either way, I learn something, until I forget it the next time I have to do it.

This site isn’t about selling anything or pushing an agenda—it’s just a place to share what I’ve learned, document what I’m working on, and maybe save someone else the trouble of making the same mistakes I did.
