Old MacDonald Lost His Farm— Enough Is Enough (Song 1)

This is the one that cracked the whole thing open. I’d landed on “Enough Is Enough” as the phrase, and I was hunting for a hook — something already in the public domain, because there’s no money behind any of this. I started playing with the letters. Enough Is Enough, It’s Over. E-I-E-I-O. That’s Old MacDonald. A song that traces back to 1706 that everybody on earth already knows, sitting right there in the public domain. It felt like a gift.

So Old MacDonald became a character — a foil. His farm gets taken out from under him, piece by piece, and along the way the song turns into a snapshot of the whole country: how much of the political system is controlled by money and by the people who already have most of it, and how unfair the whole thing has gotten. I didn’t set out to write a protest song. I didn’t set out to write a song at all. But once I had the way in, it turned into something I actually didn’t expect — a story.

For the sound I wanted it stripped all the way down. Acoustic, punk-folk, one frustrated guy singing it — not a production, just a person who’s had enough. I kept thinking about how Peter Gabriel banned cymbals on his third record to force a more percussive, rhythmic sound, and that’s the headspace I was in: don’t let the instrumentation bury the story. I built it in Suno, and I’ll be honest about the process — it took somewhere around 50 or 60 generations to get something I could live with, and I didn’t edit the output. I’m not an engineer. What you hear is what came out once I’d fought the prompts long enough to get close to what was in my head.

The video started life vertical, 9×16, because that’s how everyone watches now. I built it out of the same protest posters I’d designed for the original Enough Is Enough animation — made in a free vector tool, with SVG elements pulled from a stock subscription and rebuilt by hand into the propaganda-poster look I keep coming back to. Those posters became the backbone of the first three videos. Then I animated the layers in Filmora and turned it into a lyric video.

For this repost I redid the video so it holds up in widescreen and matches the rest of the set: Claude wrote the image prompts, ChatGPT generated the stills, and Kling animated the frames. It’s not perfect — AI animation still throws weird artifacts — but the illustration style gives me room to trim the ugly parts and keep what works.

How I made this one (the honest breakdown)

• The idea: mine — the EIEIO backronym and using Old MacDonald as a foil. That’s the part no tool handed me.
• Words & lyrics: I dictate, then use Claude as an editor and sounding board — it feeds me lines to react to, and I reject most and swap in my own until they’re right.
• Music: Suno, around 50-60 generations, output unedited. I directed the feel — stripped-down acoustic punk-folk, no cymbals in the Peter Gabriel sense — I just can’t play or engineer it.
• Original video (9×16): protest posters I designed myself (free vector tool + SVG elements from a stock subscription), animated in Filmora as a lyric video.
• Redo video (widescreen): Claude (prompts) → ChatGPT (stills) → Kling (animation), then trimmed and assembled by me.
